Brain Matter

Brain coral, found on Coconut River Beach, once the site of a slave settlement in Nevis, a Caribbean island historically rich for its productive sugar plantations.

The random, organic pattern of a Favela in Medellin, Columbia.  Also known as a slum, or in polite academic circles, an informal settlement.

Brain coral always reminds me of a psychotherapist friend who had a piece on a table in her consulting room. It always struck me as a witty commentary on what she did for a living, but when I mentioned it she claimed never to have thought of it like that… apparently she saw it as nothing more than a decoration.

    Anagrammatically yours…

  2. I imagine David Cronenberg’s desk is littered these days with brain coral. Lisa
